Catching the Light

Catching Light

I saw this tulip one morning while exploring a big city park The rays of the sun were just peeking over the tops of the skyscrapers and beginning to shine down into the park like heavenly spotlights; it was amazing to see the light move across the plants in the park, especially the flowers that seemed to both absorb and reflect the light at the same time. As their petals began to open in the sunlight, I had the thought that the flowers were like hands, opening to catch the light — hence the title of this painting.
